TLV320ADC3140: question

Part Number: TLV320ADC3140

Hello Experts,

Customer has question as follows. Would you answer it, please?
1. What is difference between microphone input and line input in the CH1_INTYP customer can configure?
2. Can customer input a signal to disabled channel? (disable channel by IN_CH_EN register.) If yes, what a voltage range can be acceptable? Would it be rated voltage acceptable?

Best Regards,
Fujiwara

  • Hi Fujiwara-san,

    1. The difference is that a MIC signal level is much softer than a line input, so often a microphone may need a preamp or gain amplifier to bring it up to line level. In TLV320ADC3140's case there isn't a difference in performance or additional impact to the audio signal when Microphone input or line input is configured. This selection is likely to inform the device that the input is analog as opposed to a digital input since the pin also serves as a GPIO.

    2. Providing an analog signal in this condition shouldn't damage the device. However, please note to not exceed the analog and digital input voltage ratings:

  • Hi Devon-san,

Customer will have preamp at front of TLV320ADC3140. Customer should set Mic or Line, which one is recommended? Customer would like to understand why there is mic/Line set register.

    Best Regards,
    Fujiwara

  • Hi,

There is no difference whether customer sets mic or line input.
