TLV320AIC3101: with normal I2S input, power on but No output

Part Number: TLV320AIC3101

Hi team,

Recently we found a random issue in customer side. After power up, TLV320AIC3101 occasionally can't output normally and the speaker has no sound. But we checked the I2S and it's normal. And then we checked the power up sequencing, it also follow the requirements in datasheet. And the design is an old design in customer. Previous PCBs never report this kind of issue.

When the issue happen, we tried to rewrite all registers but can't work. then we tried RESET again, it work.

I suspect that when the issue happen, AVDD isn't power up properly. But from the power up sequencing ( shown in below), there isn't any problem.

I was wondering if you ever met such issue. And what is the root cause here? what we should do next? Thanks!

  • Hi,

Add a new found. We found that register 11, D5 is set to 1 when issue happens. Could you pls help to clarify what happens when overflow of left-DAC occurs? What will cause overflow occurrence? Thanks!

  • Hi,

First thing to check if this D5 bit is consistently reading "1", can you read this bit once after powering up the DAC? This is just to make sure there's no random event causing that.

If this is clear and set again when the issue occurs, then this is normally get set when the digital gain is high causing high amplitude on I2S signal. So, try reducing the digital gain a little bit and see D5 is still get set.

I don't know if this bit causes the output to disappear, but let's start with the above.

    Regards.
