OPA1678: Temp Range

Part Number: OPA1678
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MC33078, OPA1656, OPA1677

There is a confusing about the temp range in the d/s as below plot. which one is correct?

Since MC33078MDREP is last buy/EOL device, TI website recommends to use OPA1678 instead.

In the customer design, the temp range needs to be up to 125deree. Is there better alternative solution to replace MC33078?

  • Hey Brian,

If slightly higher Iq is acceptable you may consider looking at the OPA1656

I agree this can be confusing to look at. This is because there is a single, dual and a quad and various packages with their own thermal resistances.

To keep it simple there is this table showing the operating ambient temperature for each.

The abs max operating temperature range for this device is T ambient = 125 C unless otherwise noted. You can see this applies to the OPA1677 in the table above. The specified temperature range is -40 to 125 deg C unless otherwise noted. This is shown for specifications such as Vos. The thermal resistance for each device single dual and quad should be observed. The die temperature should not exceed the abs max of T = 150 C.

I hope this helps clarify. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Best Regards,

    Chris Featherstone
