TLV320AIC3254-Q1: Inquiry for Audio Codec with Amplifier and FM/AM Receiver

Part Number: TLV320AIC3254-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM62P, TAC5212-Q1, , PCM3168A-Q1, TLV320AIC3104-Q1, TPA6304-Q1, TPA6404-Q1, TAS5404-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

We're searching for an audio codec with an amplifier, FM/AM receiver, and tuner for an automotive infotainment system. Our requirements include:

  • FM/AM support
  • Quad-channel amplifier with 45W outputs for four speakers
  • Microphone with noise cancellation

We plan to use TI's AM62P series MPU in our project.

Please suggest suitable TI solutions for these requirements.

Thanks,
Raj bhuvanesh

  • Hi,

So sorry about the late response. Will get back to you tomorrow.

    Best,

  • Hi Mir,

Do you have any updates on the following inquiry?

  • Hi

Today is a U.S. holiday so our engineers in the U.S. will get back to you no later than tomorrow.

    Thank you for your patience,

  • Hi Raj,

Sorry about the late response. To implement a system with a microphone input and 4 speaker output at 45W, I would recommend a codec as well as a speaker amplifier. You would need a separate radio receiver device. The AMP62P supports I2S over its MCASP port, so almost any of our codecs would work for your system. Depending on your timeline and scale, I would recommend the TAC5212-Q1, which is a new stereo automotive audio codec fully releasing within the next few months. Currently released audio codecs that you could look into would be the PCM3168A-Q1 (8ch out), TLV320AIC3254-Q1 (stereo, cheap with digital mic support and miniDSP), or the TLV320AIC3104-Q1 (even cheaper without many extra features).

As for the speaker amplifier, for a 4 channel 45W system, there are a few options. You could do either analog input or digital input since you have a codec in the device, utilizing either the DAC output or the digital output on the codec. You could look into the TPA6304-Q1, TPA6404-Q1, or TAS5404-Q1 for analog input amps, or the TAS6242MS-Q1/TAS6242M-Q1 for digital input amps. Keep in mind the Q1 suffix on TI parts means that they are rated for automotive use.

Your noise cancellation could be done with the AMP62P processor. MiniDSP is a DSP processing system built into some of our audio converters but it does not include full noise cancelling algorithms. It does include filtering and compression, and similar basic audio processing algorithms to clean the signal if desired.

You will need a specific radio signal receiver to get the AM/FM signal into the system. Take a look here to see TI's range of RF receivers: https://www.ti.com/rf-microwave/transceivers-transmitters-receivers/rf-sampling-transceivers/products.html#

Let me know if you need more help with this, I am happy to assist.

    Best,
    Mir Jeffres
