Tool/software:
Hi!
Due to some issues I had with the power sequence of the ADS1274, I have been careful with the power sequence of the devices.
I would like to know if the TLV320AIC3206 could be damaged or cause malfunction if the powerup sequence described in SLAA463B - 2.9.0.1 is not respected.
I already read some related questions, like: https://e2e.ti.com/support/audio-group/audio/f/audio-forum/773098/faq-tlv320aic3254-recommended-power-supply-sequence-for-tlv320aic-family-of-codecs
However, I still have some questions:
1. Is there any possibility of damage in the device if reset pin is pulled high before the power supplies?
2. Is there any possibility of damage or malfunction of device if the powerup sequence of independent power supplies.
3. My custom board has the following powerup sequence. Is it suitable for TLV320AIC3206? I have IOVDDD first, DRVDD_HP after 500ms, and then AVDD and DVDD together.
Hi Lenon,
Damage is not a concern if the power up sequence is not followed, however performance may be impacted negatively. The only exception to this is that Vsys must be greater than or equal to AVDD and DVDD. Otherwise leakage/reverse current can occur.
If reset is pulled high before the power supplies, the device will not be damaged but it will not perform correctly.
Your sequence looks okay, but if RESET is tied to IOVDD, then it must be the last supply in the sequence so that all supplies are stable once it is released.

Jeff McPherson
Hi Jeff,
Thank you for your answer!
I can toggle the RESET pin after all supplies stabilize. This could be an alternative?

Hi Lenon,
Yes, in fact it is recommended to keep RESET low until all supplies stabilize.

Hi Jeff,
Is there a internal weak pull down resistor/source on the RESET pin?
Best regards,
Lenon Tuchtenhagen
Hi Lenon,
No, the RESET pin must be pulled high or low externally. It's not recommended to leave it floating.

Jeff McPherson
Hi Jeff,
We are going to modify our PCB to follow the recommendations.
Thanks for your attention.
