TPA3255: In BTL mode can supply rating exceed 53.5V?

Part Number: TPA3255

Tool/software:

Hi,

I have a customer who is interested in using this device, but would like to try to get close to 100V output voltage swing.

Based on the abs max rating and recommended operating conditions, they were wondering if in BTL mode that bus pumping shouldn't be an issue (as the specs suggest max DC + peak AC). Given this, would it be possible in this mode to bump the supply rail up above the 53.5V rating?

Please let us know, thank you!

  • Hi Abigail,

Above the 53.5V PVDD we cannot guarantee functional operation as outlined in the datasheet. The abs max values are stress values and not operational ones.

If the goal is to have a 100V peak to peak output swing, you may be able to do this with the 53.5V supply limit since the output is differential. This means the speaker will have an output swing from (PVDD-loss) to -(PVDD-loss). With a 51V supply, you can expect to see a peak to peak output level of about that 100V based on the 4Ohm maximum output power spec.
