TPA3004D2: The chip shuts down abnormally when increasing the sound

The project uses TPA3004D2 and an 8 Ω 2W SPEAKER as the load.
1. When the sound is increased to a certain extent by increasing the gain, the chip enters a protective state with no sound output. 2. No issues were found with the power supply voltage and PIN1 voltage when the protection state occurred. 3. When an exception occurs, the power can be restarted or PIN1 can be set low to restore chip functionality.
May I ask why this problem occurred and how to solve it?

    This sounds like a latched fault which would indicate a short circuit event. Can you probe the current at the PWM outputs of the device when the error occurs?

    I don't feel like this is a short circuit event. The reasons are: 1. The chip can work continuously and normally when the output sound is not too loud; 2. When the fault occurred, PIN1 did not show low voltage.
    Also, which specific pin do you mean by 'the current at the PWM outputs of the device'?

  • Hi Rui,

    My main concern is that the LC filter on the outputs are causing an OC event. This could be due to low Isat of the inductor, poor grounding, or some other path to ground in the signal path. This could cause the device to try and push a lot of current that doesn't make it to the speaker itself. The image below shows where I would want you to put a current scope probe to measure the peak current on the output pins.

    In addition, if you could send me your schematic I am happy to review it to see if I see any issues.

    Thank you very much for your answer. The problem has been resolved. The reason is that the LC parameters are not suitable, resulting in excessive instantaneous current.
