TAS2505EVM: Calculating LDO Power Consumption

Part Number: TAS2505EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS2505

Tool/software:

TAS2505EVM

TAS2505

=====my specification======

SPK: use

HPOUT : not use

SPKVDD:5V

AVDD and DVDD: internal LDO 1.8V

IOVDD:3.3V

Speaker Impedance: 8ohm

===========

I will not use the headphone output, only the speaker output. I would like to calculate the power consumption of the LDO in this case. Please tell me the formula.

  • Hello,

    Please allow 24 hours for me to check on this. Thank you for your patience.

  • Hello,

    Apologies for the delay here. We don't have an equation to calculation the consumption of the LDO. This could be measured though.

    Are you wanting to know this to decide if you would rather use the device LDO or an external power source?

    >>Yes.

  • Hello,

    I see. Do you have the EVM? If so this can be measured and calculated. You can measure the power consumption of SPKVDD with the LDO on and off to find the difference in current consumption. With the LDO off you can measure the consumption of AVDD and DVDD by suppling them externally. You can then calculate the power consumption of the LDO.

    In general though, if you have a 1.8 V rail readily available it is recommended to use it for AVDD and DVDD. If you do not have it readily available, we recommend using the internal LDO as it will simplify the design.
