DRV2700EVM: IC is fried as soon as I try to measure the ouput voltage.

Part Number: DRV2700EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV2700

Tool/software:

Hello,

I have designed custom PCB for DRV2700. I thas nothing special, pretty much a copy  of  what is suggested in the datasheet. My problem ist, that after soldering the chip, it dies as soon as I try to measure the output voltage.

I connect power and gain inputs: Everything is fine.

Next, I connect Agilent U1241B to the output und Enable the Driver IC.

After that, the driver dies, starts to draw a lot of current and its output oscillate like crazy.

I have repeated the same procedure with 3  ICs ( thinking that it might be a soldering/design issue).

Only with the last IC, I have connected a dummy load (100nF capacitor) and now everything is working as intended.

Could the issue be me, trying to measure the output voltage with a multimeter without a proper capacitive load?

  • Thanks for reaching out.  Measuring the output voltage with a multimeter without a proper capacitive load won't cause the issue. Could you send your schematic and let me take a look? You can email me if you want to keep it confidential.
