CC8520 and low cost small codec

Hi Calum,

I'm working this now... looking at the CC8520 datasheet, they will need two channels of 16-bit I2S audio input from the codec.

Can you please advise:

1) Do they need heaphone or speaker drivers on the codec?

2) Is the codec going to be line- or battery-powered?

This is planned to be a unidirectional flow. They wil need a microphone at one end and will digitally store the audio at the other end.  This will be battery powered. The package needs to be something that can be hand soldered - so no QFN/BGA

I'll have to correct my last post. The CC8520 can accept multiple types of digital audio input signals, not just 16-bit I2S. That being said, we have a few devices that might work. All have exposed pins for hand-soldering:

The TLV320DACAIC23B seems like the closest match out of the bunch, and the integrated mic preamps are a plus. With regards to serial audio transfer, some of these codecs are master mode, some are slave mode. The CC8520 should be compatible with both.

I assume you meant the TLV320AIC23BIPWRG4 and not a TLV320DACAIC23B?

Is there a dev kit or eval kit they could use to hook the TLV320AIC23BIPWRG4  to the A8520E24A91GM?

Yep, the TLV320AIC23B IPWRG4 is the one. The TLV320DAC23 is a DAC, not a codec.

The TLV320AIC23EVM2 has the codec and DAC on the same board, but I'm checking to see if a USB adapter is necessary. They would also have to jump off the IC pins to get to the serial audio output. I'll get back - hopefully this week - with a better solution if we have one.

I want to verify the pins we are going to wire up on this TI Codec to the Anaren module.                              

I need to verify these are the correct pins:

• Analog Vdd (3.6v) = pin 14
• Digital Vdd (3.6v) = pin 27
• Analog Gnd = pin 15
• Digital Gnd = pin 28
• Mic In = pin 18
• I2S digital out = pin 6

 For setting Mic In Stage 1 gain, 0 ohm – 50k ohm is the gain range?  I assume all Stage 2 gain controls can only be achieved through the PurePath dev kit?
