OPA2134: Quiescent Current

Part Number: OPA2134

Tool/software:

Dear Technical Support Team,

We have received an inquiry from my customer regarding the quiescent current of the OPA2134.

The customer has pointed out a discrepancy between the measured values and those stated in the datasheet.

According to the datasheet, the quiescent current is specified as typ. 4 mA and max. 5 mA per amplifier. However, based on measurements conducted on five units, the customer observed:

  • V+: approximately 1.75 mA
  • V-: approximately 2.00 mA

We have confirmed that these units were manufactured at the FFAB facility.

Could you please advise whether similar inquiries have been reported by other customers?

Best regards,
Komatsuda

  • Hello,

The device changed fabs and had a design change. The lower current is expected. In general the new device is designed to meet the old specs or be an improvement in performance over the old device. Currently both the old and new variant are on the market. Until old inventory runs out the product datasheet specs remain the same. If any parameter from the new device was worse, then the datasheet would be updated.

    Product Change Notification

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

  • Hi Chris,

So in this case, since the supply current is lower, does that mean the new device is considered better than the old one, and therefore the datasheet will not be updated after the old version is out of stock?

The customer believes this change should be reflected in the datasheet.

    Best regards,
    Komatsuda

  • Hi Komatsuda,

The data sheet was not updated for Iq because Iq that is lower is in spec and better than the old device. At this time since the old and the new devices exist for purchase in the market the datasheet is representing the higher spec for now. Once old stock runs out the idea is to update the datasheet such that it reflects the new device.

  • Hi Chris,

Thank you very much for your response. I understand.
By the way, Could you please provide the data regarding the variation in the quiescent current values of OPA2134? (New version)

Rough data would be no problem.

    Best regards,
    Komatsuda

  • Hello Komatsuda,

The old version of the OPA2134 has a typical IQ value of 4mA per amplifier.

The new version of the OPA2134 has a typical IQ value of 1.8mA per amplifier.

Let me know if you have further questions.

    Best,
    Carrie

  • Hi Carrie,

Thank you very much for providing the information regarding the typical values in the new version.
I understand that the datasheet will be updated once the old version is no longer available in the market.
Could you kindly let me know if the old version is still being manufactured?
I would like to know the expected timing for the datasheet update.

    Best regards,
    Komatsuda

  • Hi Komatsuda,

The old version is no longer being manufactured. The old version is still in inventories on the market. It is difficult to say exactly when the datasheet will be updated in the future. At this time since both devices exist in market inventories, the product datasheet remains with the worse case specification.

    Best Regards,
