PCM1798 for mono output

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM1798

Hello,

Can we use PCM1798 for mono mode?  Is there any application note that describes how to use PCM1798 in mono mode?  What will be the signal level?

Thanks,

Madhu

  • Hi, Madhu,

Yes, mono mode is supported via pin 1, MONO, on the device.

We have no additional details beyond what is in the data sheet. Please review it and let us know what further questions you have.

As shown in Fig 25 of the d/s, MONO mode is effectively differential out, which will give you 3 dB more output level.

  • Hi Don,

    I work with Madhu.

Looking at Table 2, it looks like if you set MODE=1, then the mono signal comes out of either the L- or R-channel depending how the other pins are set, of course.  Is it still necessary to combine L and R output channels together to get a mono signal as shown in Figure 25?  What happens to the signal level if the channel outputs are not tied together?

    Thanks.
