Output power control of TPA3007D1

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA3007D1

Hi~

We will use TPA3007D1 Audio  amplifier in BTL mode. As you know, TPA3007 have Gain Control(12dB, 18dB, 23.6dB, 36dB).

We want make 6.5W output power and 1W output power by only gain control at same input level.

In TPA3007D1, Can we get 6.5W output power and 1W output power by only gain control?

If possible, How much is the input level?

If impossible, Please recommend another part?

  • Hi Jayden,

What is your speaker load impedance and supply voltage level? Is it a stereo application? To get more precise output power levels I would recommend using TAS57xx series (I2S input) with digital volume control or add a volume control IC to the analog input amps http://www.ti.com/lsds/ti/audio-ic/volume-control-product.page?paramCriteria=no

  • Thanks for your reply.

Speaker Load Impedance is 8ohm and application is mono.

DAC Output signal inputed to Amplifier. DAC output level is 0 ~ 2.2V.

Our customer want 6W and 1W Output Power at another time.

    As you know, TPA3007 have 4EA Gain Control(12dB, 18dB, 23.5dB, 36dB)

We want 6W and 1W Output Power at another time as only gain control.

Do you have formular between input level and output power and gain control?

  • Hi, Jayden,

    The output power will be:

(input voltage in rms * gain) ^2

    Po = -------------------------------------------

                                  RL

    -d2

  • Thank you for your answer.

    I have another question.

We will use 6W output power with TPA3007. As you know TPA3007 have Differential output signal(OUTP, OUTN).

We hope connect between TPA3007 output signals and external speaker through Earjack.

As you know, Earphonejack have Right and Left.

I don't know how connect between differential amp outputs and Earjack signals

When connect below case1/2, How about output power level and noise and so on?

    Case1 : OUTP(AMP)~Right(Earjack), OUTN(AMP)~Left(Earjack)

    Case2 : OUTN(AMP)~Right(Earjack), OUTP(AMP)~Left(Earjack)

If impossible, Please your idea send to me.

Also, Our customer system have distance between Eaternal speaker and Earjack is about 1.5meter.

Depending on cable type, do you recommend cable type(detail information)

  • Hi Jayden,

Case 1 and 2 are both fine, I would make sure that the wire is thick enough to avoid power loss and heating. I would recommend using at least 24 AWG wire.

  • Thank you for your answer.

If see data sheet, To reduce EMI, LC filter used to outputs of TPA3007.

But Our customer will analog switch to TPA3007 outputs(OUTP/OUTN).

    Question?

    1. Where is LC Filter location whether output of TPA3007 or output of analog switch?

    2. Can we use pull-up resistor or pull-down resistor to Output signals(OUTP/OUTN) of TPA3007?
