Low Power Opamp selection for Electret Microphone

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LPV521, OPA369

Hi,

I am working on a project where I need to detect volume peaks in certain sound events/noises in the surrounding area (~1ft).  I need a low power op-amp to amplify the signal from my electret microphone  http://www.cui.com/product/resource/digikeypdf/cma-6542tf-k.pdf.  I have been using the LPV521 and OPA769, however it seems I cannot get good amplification.  Is it possible to use these op amps with this mic, or is the slew rate too slow?  Does anyone know of a good low power alternative to use for this mic that will give me the full range of amplification?

Thanks for your help, Please let me know if you need any more information.

Mike

  • Hi, Mike,

Welcome to e2e, and thanks for your interest in our products!

I've asked my colleague to address your concerns.

  • Mike,

There is no OPA769 so I think you are referring to OPA369. Is that correct?

Be aware that the electret capsule you have used requires a maximum of 500uA current to operate. Seems like you are working with nano-power amplifiers when the real significant current is consumed by the electret capsule.

Can you provide a schematic of the circuit you are attempting? Please provide details of supply voltage and biasing of the electret capsule.

    Regards, Bruce.
