PGA2320 power up behavior

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PGA2320, PGA2311

Hi, I'm designing a power amplifier which uses PGA2320/2311 as input attenuator. This device is controlled by a USB SPI bridge, and here is the question. What is the relationship between VA and VD? Can I power up VA without VD or vice versa? How will this device behave with VA but without VD? Will it mute or remain previously programmed value?(My senario is a device connects to an permanent analog supply and a hot-pluggable USB power. The VA is always on, but the VD is not guaranteed. The VD is also possible to be on without VA, where the device is not powered, but the USB is plugged.)

  • Hello Bo,

The PGA2320 and PGA2311 will not function without both supplies active. If only the analog supply is powered on, the analog core is active but the digital logic is inactive and the amplifier channels are stuck in their power-on mute state. If only the digital supply is powered on, the digital logic is active and SPI communication is possible but the amplifier channels do not have power to amplify the input signals.

    Best regards,

    Ian Williams
