TAS5518 Substitute

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5518, CC8520

I am studying a project that would use 6 to 8 digital mics and a CC85xx.  The TAS5518 CODEC looks ideal and the PurePath Configurator supports it.  Unfortunately, the TAS5518 is marked as not suitable for new designs.

Is there a substitute for the TAS5518 that would be supported by the PPConfigurator? ( The more automated this process is, the better.)

I will probably use the Anaren  A8520E24A91 for its integrated matching network and antenna.

  • Hi Roger,

Sorry for the late reply, but have been trying to get hold of our TAS team to get the most appropriate replacement part for the TAS5518 but so far no response I'm afraid.

There will most likely not be a near term replacement out of the box in the PurePath Wireless configurator tool, but we have made this so that users can write their own audio device definition files (see configurator help system) for any audio device that is either configured through I2C and/or up to 4 GPIOs. If you find a suitable part, this forum section can assist and help in the creating of such a file. It's a little complex process, but once you get a grip of it it's quite powerful and flexible.

  • Thanks Kjetil!

Actually, I did find a chip from a competitor that will input all the digital mics and output I2S for the CC8520.  After studying it for a while longer, the TAS55x8 did not seem to be able to do this, so I looked around some more.  I am now looking at the configurator help files and trying to learn how to program this new device. The competitor also has a programming GUI for PC that can be used separately to set up their chip, so that might be a (clumsy) way to go.
