TPA6132A - WOW!

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM4880

I got the EVM for the TPA6132A and tested it on the bench last night. All I can say is "WOW". I am beyond impressed with this device. Running from a 7805 and a 9V battery, the rails were very clean. I tested it with an Audiophile sound card and a variety of different types of music. Just incredible. I've been using devices like the LM4880 in the past, and wanted to try one of the "capless" devices. I won't look back. I haven't run any low voltage tests yet, though in this particular design it's of less importance than if I were doing something that ran directly off the battery. Design in complete.

  • Mike,

    Thanks for the awesome feedback!

The noise seems to be below audible levels for any head phones I've used, and there is no click or anything when cycling SD. This is truly an awesome part! The only vague complaint we get is the output power capability, but for most consumer head phones, 25 mW is more than enough power.

I don't know if anyone is using this feature, but we have the ability to add a review of a product directly to the Product Folder:

You might want to give it 5 stars there! :)

  • Not enough power?! LOL - the thing practically tore my head off! I have a genetic condition called otosclerosis; the stapes in my ear "grew together" over time. I had it surgically corrected years ago (a piece of plastic and titanium replaced the stapes - yeah, an "audio guy" with a hearing problem). Point is, if *I* think this is loud...! Maybe the people with that complaint didn't have a proper input signal (or something). My wife tried it and was amazed at the quality "from that little tiny thing". This is a design in for an electric guitar headphone amp; I've in fact sent the EVM to an associate for him and some other "guitar tech to the stars" to check out. BTW; I tried it with little ear buds, some cheap headphones they give you on an airplane, and my Bose Triport OE's. Awesome all around.

I tried using the review system on the device page; I got a message saying the system was offline - lol. I'll give it a go again.

  • Mike,

Thanks for the feedback!!! I can't test this as it is blocked for TI employees. Guess our folks don't think I'd be neutral in writing reviews for our parts! hahaha

Let me see if I can get the folks in Internets Marketing to fix this.

What's the saying about computers and messing stuff up? :)
