In my opinion is only difference, that PCM5100A support 1.8V or 3.3V logic and PCM5100 support only 3.3V logic. If you have I2S logic with 1.8V levels, that you need PCM5100A. In other cases it doesn't care what version you use.

that's the main difference, we NRND'd the older version, so we could drive more volume and lifetime longevity on the 1.8V supported part.
