TAS5342a

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5142, TAS5342A

^ years ago we designed a new line of multi channel amplifiers using the TAS5142. At this moment the product is going through a major redesign. When I look at the product catalogue, it seems to me that the TAS5142 is "not recommended for new design" although this is not explicitly mentioned, and that it is better to use TAS5342a, which has lowe Rdson fets and thus higher efficiency.

Is this conclusion correct?

There is are some curious issues in the TAS5342A datasheet, all graphs mention at 10% THD+noise, including the THD vs output power figures itself!

  • Hi, Geert,

The TAS5342A is the next generation device. The 1k pricing is cheaper, as well.

So, it's really up to you - continue using the part you know, or change to this newer device to get all the advantages it brings you. Of course, you will need to qualify the new part...

AFAIK, we have no plans to stop production on the TAS5142, but it is getting to be pretty old.. We developed that part 10 years ago.

Thanks for the tip on the d/s error. I have captured those to fix the next time we update this d/s.

  • Hi Don,

Thanks for the quick reply. The 5142 has never let us down, however I have no doubts about the fact that TI knows what they are doing. So I am going for the newer device. No reason te be conservative.
