ROM comparision between TUSB3200A and TAS1020B

I have a customer that has been using with the TUSB3200A and is contrasting it to the TAS1020B for a new project. The TAS1020B has most of the essential features needed for this new project , however the memory partitioning is different and there is ~6K RAM and 8K ROM compared to 8K RAM and 4K ROM for the TUSB3200A. We currently are using nearly all of the 8K RAM so moving to the TAS1020B will be a challenge.

What would really help is a better understanding of what is contained within the ROM on the TAS1020B. Why is it larger at 8K versus 4K for the TUSB3200A? Are there general USB routines already contained within the ROM that could be used to reduce the code required in RAM?

I guess what would really help is to get some more detailed documentation about the ROM contents to better estimate the code space required for this part.

Any help is appreciated.

thanks,

Mark

  • Mark,

The source for the ROM of the TAS1020B is available in the Firmware Development Kit for the TAS1020B, along with a sample application for the TAS1020BEVM that uses the ROM image.

Though one can use the TAS1020B without using the ROM image at runtime, it is envisioned that users of the TAS1020B base their applications on the sample application for the TAS1020B EVM so as to take advantage of the routines and framework provided by the ROM.
