TAS5760M Driving headphones without separate DAC

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5760M, TAS5760MD, PCM5100A

Hello,

I am trying to use the TAS5760M (or TAS5760MD) in an audio amplifier that takes digital input.  The device needs a stereo headphone output and a stereo speaker output.  To reduce cost and board size, I would like to be able to drive the headphones without needing a separate DAC.

Because headphones have both drivers connected to the same ground, they cannot be connected in bridge-tied-load.  To solve this problem, I am considering connecting a DC-blocking capacitor and a resistor divider to SPK_OUTA+ and SPK_OUTB+ to drive the headphones, but I'm not sure whether the TAS5760M will perform well with single-ended connection because the datasheet makes no mention of such a connection.

Will the TAS5760M be capable of driving headphones in a single-ended configuration?  Would there be issues with sound quality or stability?

Regards,

Ali
