Class-D amplifier ICs, trying to decide between open and closed loop.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5709A, TAS5708, TAS5760M

Hello,

I am trying to decide if TAS5708 (closed loop) or TAS5709A (open loop) would be better fro my application. I do not need all the frills of the 5709A, but wonder if there is any downside to using the 5708 which appears to have lower THD with slightly noisy supplies.

Regards,

Jordan

  • Hello Jordan,

    Welcome to e2e.

We suggest you to take a look at new generation devices with even higher performance than the ones you mention, like TAS5760M.

This is a closed loop amplifier that has similar but enhanced features that makes it a great Class-D amplifier choice.

Thanks for your interest in TI products!,

  • Diego,
Great suggestion, I like the TAS5760M much better. One question, why is it that the headphone amplifier cannot use the same I2S feed as the Class-D amplifier? Too bad, since it would be great to monitor the I2S source using the headphones.

    Thanks,
