Recovery from shutdown of LM49450

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM49450

Hi Team,

LM49450 has the short circuit protection and the thermal overload protection.
But there is no detail description for them in the datasheet.

How can we do to be recovered from the shutdown state, when the shutdown has occurred by these protections?

Any helps would be highly appreciated.

With Best Regards,

Masakazu Ohta,

  • Hi Masakazu,

Generally, most parts will auto recover from both a thermal shutdown and a short circuit shutdown once the issue has been cleared. (Ie. The part has cooled or the output short has been removed)

On rare occasions, parts set a register flag during the fault that must be reset by I2C for operation to continue. Looking through the datasheet 0x00h B0 “enable” may be such a flag. It is possible that once these faults occur, 0x00h B0 may have to be reset to 1 to enable the part again.

Unfortunately we do not have EVMs of this board to verify so I would design around the assumption that you would have to reset the enable bit to 1, but this is doubtful.

    Regards,

    Matt
