Need a chip amplifier to replace a TDA7052 BTL system

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA0211

Looking for suggestions on a chip amp to replace a TDA7052 BTL (bridge tied load). It's the final stage of a communications mixer which outputs to a speaker/microphone. The amp cannot be a BTL system. (The BTL arrangement of the 7052 does not allow for a common ground point in the output jack which the PTT function of the speaker mic requires). What I'm looking for is a chip amp that is not a BTL system but has similar qualities to the 7052. Preferably SOIC with a voltage controlled volume if possible. The PCB design is battery powered and has regulated +/-5V and unregulated +9V available. The current replacement plan is to use LM386M however the external parts count is high compared to the TDA7052 and space is limited.

  • Hi, Kirk,

Welcome to e2e, and thanks for your interest in our products!

Have you seen our selection guide? You can find it here: http://www.ti.com/lsds/ti/analog/audio/tools_tab.page

  • Unfortunately the selection guides for all chip manufacturers seem to be the same in that the more exotic the application the easier it is to find what you want. Things get difficult however when searching for simpler devices (such as the TDA7052). There are no selection guides for basic devices that might have a modernized replacement and the only way seems to be to pick through the product lists, its a little frustrating.. Eventually (after several hours) I found a suggestion on the TI site using a cross reference which, incidentally, didn't even recognize the TDA7052 as a valid part (as I mentioned, frustrating). This is how I managed to find the TPA0211, a possible replacement part with some but not all of the features I need. It would be simply lovely to have at hand a selection guide like the one you provided that suggested replacement parts for the simpler every day things in electronics.

    Thanks for the response nonetheless.
