Question about the absolute maximum ratings

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM386, TLC271

Hello All,

I have a question about the absolute maximum ratings from customer(Terumo).

* LM386,LTC271

Customer wants to confirm a symptom in case of the input with more than of  absolute maximum ratings.

Q1. When -input+input contain input with more than of absolute maxim rating what kind of symptom is IC?

Q2. About -input+input, do you have the diode for the protection in the IC inside?

Q3. When Diode for the protection enters, If it is electric currents less than rectification electric current   capacity of Diode, is it not broken?

Q4. About question 3, When it is less than current 1mA, what kind of symptom can you expect?

Would you please send answer of LM386 and LTC271?

Best Regards,

Haruta

  • Hi Haruta,

I will try to reply to your questions soon.

  • Hi Haruta,

First of all, from a QA's point of view, if the voltage to inputs exceeds abs max rating value, the device may be damaged and TI will not guarantee that the device can still work.

Here are some answers to your questions after a discussion with my colleague.
    1) When signal applied is more than abs max rating, the negative swing is clamped with Vf of diode and positive side has no clamped.
And the output is inverted during below Vf because of first stage turn around ckt was saturated and 2nd stage is Off.

    2) Yes, the chip has internal diode between GND and on + and – Inputs.

    3) When large current flow into the diode, the device may cause damage. The diode may be damaged or somewhere in chip may be damaged by latch up effect. Note when exceeding abs max rating value, we can’t guarantee the device can work properly.

    4) If less than 1mA flow into input pins, the device will be OK but not guaranteed.

We strongly suggest that the signal input level should be less than abs max rating to protect this device from any damage.

  • Hello,Andy-san,

Thank you very much for your reply.

Please let me confirm the following.
Is the answer mentioned above OK by the understanding of two answers to LM386 and LTC271?
I reply to customer after I had an answer from you.

    Best Regards,
    Haruta
  • Hi Haruta,

Is LTC271 a TI part?  I don't know this device. These answers I posted are only for LM386.

  • Hi Andy-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

    I understood.

I confirm TLC271 to the TLC271 person in charge.

    Best Regards,
    Haruta
