TPA2016D2/TPA6130A2 Single channel to Dual output channels with AIC3204
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA6130A2, TPA2016D2, TPA6120A2Hi,
I am using AIC3204 differential HP+/HP- outputs (1 channel) to drive both Left and Right TP6130A2 and TPA2016D2 audio amplifier inputs pins.
I have to use Boths dual (Left and Right) output channels on TPA6120A2 and TPA2016 amplifiers (assuming off course that Left and Right output signals will be the same).
AIC3204 outputs common mode are either 0.75, 0.90, 1.25, 1.50, 1.65 V (the highers prefered to get the maximum output swing voltage signal).
I am very space limited on my board, so I would like to avoid using 8 x input capacitors from Codec differential outputs to 4 differentials audio amplifiers inputs.
My concern is to drive amplifiers inputs without theses inputs capacitors : Is it possible and what my be the optimum codec output common mode ?
The other points is the following. If I have to use inputs capacitors, since Left and Right inputs are the same for both amplifiers, can I short directly INL+ to INR+ and INL- to INR- on both amplifiers. If it's Ok, I will so only need 4 capacitors (2x for TPA6130A2 and 2x for TPA2016D2)) rather than 8.
Thanks.
Nicolas
Finally, note that TPA2016D2 is powered directl from LiIon cell (Vnom 3v7), wherease TPA6130 is powered from 3v3 LDO.
I guess that if Common Mode on All IC are identical there won't be issues,
I am using the TPA2016D2 with one input signal coming from the AIC3204 Codec. I am very space limited on my board so I would like to avoid all extra passives (R,C).
My questions are the following :
* Can I connect differential codec outputs (Common mode is 0.75, 0.90, 1.25, 1.50, 1.65 V) to TPA 2016D2 inputs rather than using 2x bypass capacitors per channel ?
* Since I only have one channel as input (with differential signals), can I directly short INL+ to INR+ and INL- to INL+
I got lost a bit in your explanation.
DC-Blocking capacitors sometimes are optional; as long as the reference voltage of the codec output meets the amplifier input requirements, these capacitors can be removed.
However, removing these input capacitors may reduce the pop performance of the amplifier.
As TPA6120A2 and TPA2016D2 don't have DC-detect protection I think you can remove DC-blocking capacitors but take care to remain at the input voltage range of both amplifiers. (Again, doing this may reduce pop performance and increase output offset)
Are you connecting HRP/HPR to TPA6120A2 and LOL/LOR to TPA2016D2?
Splitting the signal for both amplifier channels may reduce the power but I think there should be no problem.
Let me know if this covered your questions.
Thanks for your comments. I am connecting
* AIC3204 HPL to TPA6130A2 LEFTINP / RIGHTP (dual mono) and also TPA2016D2 INL+ /INR+ (dual mono)
* AIC3204 HPR to TPA6130A2 LEFTINM / RIGHTM (dual mono) and also TPA2016D2 INL- /INR- (dual mono)
I have noticed that TPA6130A2 has a special dual mono feature, so I do not need to short LEFTINM to RIGHTINM (resp LEFTINP to RIGHTINP).
Now, I want to know if I decide to keep input capactitors, if I can short TPA2016D2 INL+ to INR+ (resp.INL- to INR-) to get a dual mono ?
