TAS5414C-Q1 Short Circuit Protection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5414C-Q1

Hi,

Could you please give us your advice although we would like to grasp in detail about the short circuit protection which is mentioned on page 18 of TAS5414C-Q1 data sheet ?

Q1. Condition which SCP works
Would you tell us the condition which the short circuit protection works ?
Moreover, is SCP related to CBC(Cycle by Cycle Current Limit) ?

Q2. Specification and Rule of SCP
Would you tell us the specification and the rule of the short circuit protection in detail ?

Q3. Destruction by connecting the outputs to the power supply
Is TAS5414C-Q1 broken before the short circuit protection works ?
TAS5414C-Q1 was broken when connecting the output after LC filter to PVDD.
The condition is PVDD = 24V, Gain = 20dB, OC Limit = Level2(0x09=F0h) and Fs=500kHz.

Best regards,
Kato

  • Kato-san,

I will reply the best I can:

    1.  There is not such term in the TAS5414C-Q1 datasheet for SCP.  So I will try to describe out Cycle by Cycle current limit when the load is shorted.  The cycle by cycle current limit will terminate a PWM pulse when the maximum current it reached.  The audio output will appear as a clipped waveform.  If the output is shorted, the CBC will function until the device heats up and thermally shuts down.
    2.  The OCSD or over current shutdown is to protect the device from short to power or short to ground.  It will terminate the pulse and set the output to Hi-Z.
    3.  Please elaborate more on the failure.  Was this a one time event?  Did the software continue to turn the device on into a short and allowed to trigger the OCSD? I can use as much information as you can provide in this public forum.

  • Hi Gregg-san,

Thank you for your quick response.
TAS5414C-Q1 was broken if connecting the output(OUT4_M) after LC filter to PVDD when it is working.
I heard that this was a one time event.
Could you please give me your advice regarding a root cause ?

    Best regards,
    Kato
