TAS5708 automatic bank switching

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5708, TAS5754M

Hi,

I'm trying to use TAS5708 with PCM2707s I2S ourput. PCM2707 can operate at 44.1 and 48 kHz.

It seems like TAS5708 can't tell the difference between 44.1 and 48, so it will use the same bank for both. Is that correct?

Does that mean if the sampling frequency changes, my filters will have a shift in their frequency response and there is nothing I can do?

Thanks,

  • Hi Siavash,

The TAS5708 is a quite old closed loop digital audio amplifier, I would recommend you to take a look to our newer parts like the TAS5754M. This device offers a better overall performance and reduced BOM.

Regarding your question, Yes, TAS5708 will use the same bank coefficients for both sampling rates. Filter coefficients will adjust automatically using bank coefficients to keep the same frequency response configured by the user.

  • Hi Diego,

Switching to a different part is not an option for us at the moment.

Help me understand, if TAS5708 is using the same bank for both 44 and 48, it means it is using the same coefficients. Then how is it possible to keep the same frequency response?

    Thanks,
    Sia
  • Hi Sia,

In automatic bank switch mode, 44.1 Khz and 48 KHz are so close that auto detection uses just one set of coefficients for both. The frequency response won't be the same but it will be very similar. Automatic bank switch is intended to be a helpful feature that will adjust the coefficients of the device when the response of the amplifier get's affected by using a very different sampling rate.
