TAS5614LA THD+N measurement condition

Hi Engineers,

In the datasheet, THD+N (including output power) is not specified with A-weighting filter in test condition (maybe just 20kHz LPF).

Is my understanding correct? If so, why is NOT THD+N spec measured with A-weighting filter although SNR, DNR and Vn are measured with it?

Regards,

  • Hello,

    Yes this is correct.

For THD+N measurements, it is standard practice in audio to look at harmonic content without any filters in the audio band to assess amplifier linearity. Since A-weighting effects the audible band it is not used. Instead, a 20KHz LPF is used to remove harmonics above the auditable band.

It is standard to measure SNR and other noise type measurements using A-weighting to account for how the human ear will perceive the noise. For example, if a amplifier produced a lot of noise at 1KHz where the ear is most sensitive, an A-weighted and non-A-weighted measurement would yielded nearly identical voltage noise results.

    Hope this helps!

    Best Regards,
    Matt
