Question of the TAS5704 / TAS5760M / TAS5766 Pout

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5760M, TAS5704, TAS5766M

Hi Sirs,

We are comparing the Pout on the TAS5704, TAS5760M and TAS5766M EVM with the same test condition (24V, 6ohm load, I2S input = -2dBFS/6.7KHz). We found clipping with the TAS5760M with hardware setting. Would you pls advise how to acheve the same output power as the TAS5704 and TAS5766?

Thank you and Best regards,

Wayne Chen

  • Hi, Wayne,

It seems the output is being saturated on the amplifier. Can you please check in the GUI the Volume of the amplifier in Software mode? The digital volume in SW mode is set incorrectly by the GUI, being scaled from -100 to 0 (0 is default in GUI), when the actual scaling should be from MUTE to +24dB. The volume is set to 0dB by default in the amplifier, but when the amp gets configured with the GUI, the maximum volume is configured (+24dB). Even if used in Hardware mode, the volume configured on the digital side of the amplifier is applied. In order to fix this, I think the easiest way is to open the Registers tab in PPC1, then setup the volume registers as follows to get a volume of 0dB.

By the way, I wouldn't recommend to use the TAS5704, this device is quite old and the BOM, performance and cost is worse than many of out current I²S amplifiers.
