About TAS2521 – Gain setting and, THD+N data on datasheet

Hello,

(1) Regarding to the gain setting, I have a question.

My customer is setting following gain volume and is asking about appropriately gain setting.

(a) DAC Channel Digital Volume Control Register (Page0, Reg 0x41) -> Their setting value is maximum(+24dB).

(b) Speaker Amplifire Volume Control 1 (Page1, Reg 0x2E) -> They are using for main volume control.

(c) Speaker Amplifire Volume Control 2 (Page1, Reg 0x30) - > Their setting value is 6dB(0x01).

*I think that (c) Speaker Amplifire Volume is used for class-D amp gain and it depends on customer’s application.

Also this value should be fixed.

*Should (a)DAC Channel Digital Volume be set to maximum? Or how can they set the best setting?

(2) Regarding to Figure 4-5(THD+N vs 8ohm speaker power) on datasheet page 15, I have a question.

Do you have a THD+N data at Gain=6dB from output power=0.5W?

Regards,

Tao_2199

  • Hi Tao,

Regarding the gain settings: You could use a fixed value at the Speaker Amplifier Volume Control 2 (Class D volume) because this control changes in bigger steps. DAC Channel Digital Volume Control and Speaker Amplifier Volume Control 1 have smaller steps; you could fix the DAC Channel Digital Volume Control gain and use the Volume Control 1 as volume control.

I will take a look at the THD+N plot and come back with comments later.

  • Hello Ivan,

    Thank you for reply.
Regarding to the setting value of DAC Channel Digital Volume Control, I have a question.
You mentioned that you could fix the DAC Channel Digital Volume Control gain and use the Volume Control 1 as volume control.
In this case, what this setting value do you recommend?
Maximum or Middle value ? Or it depends on customer’s application?

  • Hi Tao,

The gain setting depends on customer application.

  • Hello Ivan,

    Thank you for reply.
    About THD+N data (@Gain=6dB),

Would you let me about the current status ?

  • Hi Tao,

The THD+N plot is stopped at that level because the output can't go higher in power at that specified configuration and load.
