TAS5261 Shorted output

Hi, I'm troubleshooting a commercial PA system which uses a TAS5261, The TAS5261 is failing short, the replacement board only lasted a few months, could this be due to failing lead acid batteries? or current or voltage peaking in the output filter? The inductors are 10uH Bypass caps 1.0uF the speaker is 4 ohm.

Initially the system worked ok for ~3years, when the amp board was replaced the batteries were not considered and thought to be ok but after the second board failure one 12v battery was found to have failed. could this be an under volt problem?

  • Hello David,

Unfortunately this is a question for the support department of the company that designed/manufactured the PA system. Because they designed and manufactured this system, they would be in a better position to provide some help.
What I can say is that the TAS5261 has a lot of protection circuitry built into the device including: Overtemperature, Overcurrent, under voltage, and Short circuit protection.
The under voltage protection would detect a low 12-V (I believe its anything below 9.8V) and this would put the device in shutdown and the outputs would be set in a hi-Z state. Actually, if the device was over-temperature, detected a short circuit, or was over-current, the device would also go into shutdown and the outputs would be set in a Hi-Z state.

Best thing to do would be to contact the manufacturer.

    Best regards,
