TPA6132A2: Limiting the input levels of a mic input

Part Number: TPA6132A2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA2029D1

I have system that extract audio data from a car power amplifier and feeds it to a computer mic input. My main problem is the gain control, the output of the amplifier is too high for the mic input, so I introduced an attenuator but now I decrees low level signals. I need a device to keep the low level signals as is (or even increase them) but attenuate high level signal.

The desired system behavior would be to limit the input levels that go into the mic and not just trimming them so if I will increase the level of the car radio to the maximum, I could still feed the mic input with reasonable levels (or alternatively, feed headphones without blowing my ears).

In low levels the device should do nothing or even increase the level.

Do you have a compatible recommended part?

I saw those: TPA6132A2  or TPA2029D1  for example, would any of them do?

  • Hi Tomer,

    Sorry for my delayed response.
I think that an AGC/DRC might be what you're looking for as this feature is able to react to the input signal level.
TPA2029D1 features AGC, although this is a Class-D amplifier, is it fine for your application? or a Class-AB would be better for your mic input?
