TAS5624ADDVEVM: TAS5624ADDVEVM with TAS5538 instead of TAS5558

Part Number: TAS5624ADDVEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5558, , TAS5538

Hi,

we have ordered a TAS5624ADDVEVM in order to evaluate TAS5558.
The EVM was assembled with TAS5538. After some loops with TI support (1-2556766222) we received this answer:

"According to our latest telephone conversation, hereby I confirm also that this EVM is not available at this moment."

So they send us sample parts of TAS5558DCAR.

After desoldering TAS5538 it looks like, that the layout of EVM is not compatible to TAS5558DCAR.
TAS5558DCAR has a PowerPAD on the bottom side.
The TAS5538, which should be replaced don't has a PowerPAD. There are vias in this area which would be shortend by the pad.

Imprint on EVM: TAS5624DDVEVM - 6524657
From shipping confirmation: TAS5624ADDVEVM
It looks like, that we have received a wrong (incompatible) EVM.

The support told us to ask our distributor or E2E forum community.
Two distributors told us to ask TI.

We have asked support also for the difference between TAS5538 and TAS555 without success.

Regarding our question for data sheet of TAS5538: "we don't have the datasheet available".

Is there a solution available to evaluate TAS5558 soon?

Best regards,
Jochen

  • Jochen,

I apologize for all the confusion. I am Adam Sidelsky, applications support for High Power Audio and the TAS55x8.

The TAS5558 and TAS5538 are pin compatible and functionally equivalent. The TAS5624EVMs were incorrectly stuffed with the TAS5538.

We have now fixed that issue and the future boards should all have TAS5558 installed on them.

We have corrected our inventory of TAS5624EVMs to now have the TAS5558 devices as well. We have confirmed the TAS5558 works with the existing layout on the board.

Are you able to swap the TAS5538 device for a TAS5558 device on the board? If not, let me know and we can arrange the rework for you.

I have also answered the customer service representative for the ticket.

    Regards,

    -Adam

  • Hi Adam,

the PCB under the TAS55x8 looks like that:

So the PowerPad is small enough not to contact the vias at pins 16 and 37?
Should the soldermask under the IC be removed in order to contact the PowerPad to the GND plane?

I assume, that the performance of the IC is affected by a bad contact of the PowerPad. The layout of the EVM is far away from the recommended PCB:

Just to be shure, that we talk about the same PCB.

I think we can manage the replacement. In case it does not work, i will contact you.

    Best regards,
    Jochen
