TPA3116D2EVM: Maximum Amp input level without clipping

Part Number: TPA3116D2EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA3116D2

Hi All

I am using a miniDSP as a DAC / crossover + PEQ into the TPA3116EVM to drive 2 speakers.  I am seeing that the maximum input signal into the TPA3116EVM before the output clips is about 770mVrms sin at 1kHz.  This is close to 1Vp but what is the maximum input level the TPA3116EVM likes to see?  The miniDSP has a maximum output of ~2Vrms with 0dBFS sin at 1kHz.

Thanks

-Mike

  • Hi Michael,

Shawn is checking up on this and should be posting to get back to you.

  • Hi Michael,

The input amplitude depends on the gain setting and output amplitude. How much is gain setting on TPA3116D2? How much is the rated power on the speakers? How much is the resistance on the speaker? You can calculate the input amplitude with these data.

And also, as you described above, you need to make sure there is no clipping. How much is PVCC power supply? The maximum output need to be less than PVCC to avoid clipping.

    Best regards,

    Shawn Zheng
