TPA4861: ESD problem

What is the best way to protect the TPA4861 from ESD coming in on the speaker connections?

I have added ESD suppressors (Littelfuse PGB1010603MR) to chassis ground on both speaker connections (pins 5 and 8 of the TPA4861), but ESD at +6kV still affects the part.

Also, I have tried the LM4861 (former National part) and it does not have the ESD issue.

Hi Gregg,

Welcome to E2E, thanks for your interest in our products.
You are using a TVS diode with clamping voltage = 150V, but the output voltage maximum of the TPA4861 is 6Vrms. You should use a TVS diode with clamping voltage around output voltage maximum in order to avoid ESD issues.

Thanks for the idea. I will try some ON Semi ESD5B5.0ST1G diodes that I have on hand ...

A new question:

How long does TI plan to continue producing the TPA4861, and also the LM4861 (ex-National) ?

TI is not planning to stop producing these devices.
Regarding the ESD Problem, you could verify the answer this would be useful to help other customers with the same problem.
