LM4766: Mounting Tab

Part Number: LM4766
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA3116D2,

Dear Engineers,

I would like to know what pin the case is connected to. I believe it is -Vee. I mistakenly thought it was ground and shut the amp down before I totally destroyed the chip. Now the case (mounting tab) is reading 16-17.5 ohms to -Vee but is still working fine both channels. So is this correct 16-17.5 ohms or did I do some damage to it. If damaged I find it odd it is still performing well. I have to order some more pieces.

Chris

  • Hi Christopher,
It looks no problem, but the reliability can't be garanteed any more. Please change a new device if possible. In addition, LM4766 is a very old class-AB device, why don't you try our class-d device(e.g TPA3116D2), which has much higher efficiency?
    Best regards,
    Shawn Zheng
  • You will never ever get the quality of fidelity out of a class D device that you will out of a class AB device, this is something I will never use. Although class D is efficient, it will not sound good, it will never sound good since you are losing audio information when converting to square wave for amplification
