Class D amps without speaker protection?

I'd like to drive a solenoid with a modulated audio signal. There needs to be substantial dc currents flowing, so the typical speaker protection circuitry would be a problem. Power range >20 W, < 100W multiple channels needed.

Hi Keith,

Are you looking for a switch array to drive multiple solenoids? If so, the ULN2003A or TPL7407LA may be a good option. Would devices like these work?

Hi Keith,

Welcome to E2E! Another suggestion for a Solenoid driver is the DRV101. Although it doesn't offer multi-channel support, it does provide protection up to your specified power requirements.

As Alek has mentioned, are there any other system requirements for your application?

I should have been clearer, I want audio plus DC, or at least very low frequencies down to sub Hz. A class D amp without speaker protection would seem to be ideal because it would be fairly efficient. A PWM-driven H-bridge motor driver with equivalent low-pass filtering to a class D amp is another potential candidate device, perhaps?

I will look at the DRV101, it might work, but I'm not sure that a unipolar drive is sufficient, I'll check with my client. Basically think of an audio amp that instead of the average output being 0 V, it is a positive voltage.
