PCM4204: PCM4204

Part Number: PCM4204

I have some questions about PCM40204:

1. how to set the SCKI and BCK  frequency when the converter is in slave mode? For example, when Fs=32K, FBCK = 32 * 2 * Fs? and FSCKI can be set between 6.144MHz and 38.4MHz ? the clock of SCKI and BCK  do not need synchronized?

2. when the converter is in slave mode and short frame - TDM Data Format,  BCK = 128fs, so the TDM port can only transmit 4 channels Audio data, with every channel contain 32 btis. In the fig.4 of datasheet of PCM4204, there are 8-channels in one frame when short frame is used.

  • Hi,

Welcome to E2E, Thanks for your interest in our products!.

My colleague in charge of the PCM4204 has been notified about your question, he is out of the office this week but will get back to you with a response next week.

    We appreciate your comprehension.

    Thanks and Regards,

  • Dear Diego:

Thanks for your reply, we are now using the EVM of PCM4204, and could you please tell me your colleague's email?

  • Thanks for your interest in PCM4204.

PCM4204 can be used in Single Rate mode for sampling rate up to 54kHz and the device can be configured using FS2, FS1 and FS0 input pins. The S/M pin is used to configure the device in SLAVE mode. And FMT0, FMT1 & FMT2 pins are used to configure the device in TDM mode.

BCK and LRCK are inputs when the device is configured in SLAVE mode and these clocks *MUST* be synchronous.

Regarding the Fig.4 in DS, In short-frame, there should be 2 sub frames with 2 slots per sub frame, for a total of 4 slots (assuming 32 bits). So the TDM data format for short frame is inaccurate.

    Best regards,

    Ravi

  • Hello Ravi:
you mean that the short-frame data structure in Fig4 of PCM4204 DS is wring?

    two more questions:
    1. IF want use PCM4204 in slave mode, and we want set the Fs equal to 96KHz,then how to set the SCKI and BCK frequency?

    2. we want to get 4-channels Audio data with 96KHz sampling frequency, and set the PCM4204 in salve mode and TDM port, which on should i choose,Long-Frame or short-frame?
  • Hello, Ravi:

BCK and LRCK are inputs when the device is configured in SLAVE mode and these clocks *MUST* be synchronous.

How to synchronize those two clocks?

LRCK and BCK should be at the rise edge at the same time ?

    or

LRCK and BCK should be at the fall edge at the same time ?

    or

LRCK is at rise edge and BCK is at fall edge at the same time ?

    Thanks!
