TPA6011A4: Using one channel (mono) of a stereo audio amplifier

Part Number: TPA6011A4
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA2012D2

Hi,

Is it possible to use only one channel of a stereo audio amplifier such as the TPA6011A4, so that is to use it as a mono audio amp.

A follow on question, can such an audio amplifier be used with a single ended input, but differential (Bridged) output?

Thanks

  • Hi Patrick,

    Welcome to e2e.
Yes, you can use only one channel. The other channel will be active but not used. There are other devices, like TPA2012D2, that have independent channel shutdown control, this allows you to disable one channel and only use one of them.
Talking specifically about TPA6011A4, you can use single-ended input by using either xLINEIN or xHPIN and connecting xIN pins to GND through a capacitor, like Figure 28 from the data sheet. And to select Differential output you must connect SE/BTL pin to GND, this will set the output to BTL (differential) mode.
