TLV320AIC3105EVM-K: How to get audio outputs (playback) and capture audio inputs (record) using TLV320AIC3105EVM

Part Number: TLV320AIC3105EVM-K
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC3104, TLV320AIC3254, TLV320AIC3105

Dear Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.,

I have connected the EVM and after a bit of trouble I was able to get it up and running, Turns out I had to download the latest drivers from National Instruments. Now I can at least connect the software GUI to it without it asking me to "retry" the USB connection.

may be just operator error on my part. Staring at the screen for hours can make you miss something staring you in the face! I've pressed every button imaginable on the GUI but other than the offset drifting output I managed to get, nothing.

Firstly, placed all the jumpers in default state as mentioned in the User's Guide. Then, ensured that the PC is being recognized the EVM.

I verified the wma audio file using Windows Media Player.

How to select the EVM as the playback device for the audio file??

How and What are all the settings that needs to be done inorder do the audio capture using EVM?

Trying to do the playback on J9 using HPLOUT - HEADSET OUTPUT, Apart from the above could you please let me know if am I missing anything to get the audio playback working on EVM??

Attached is the snapshots of DAC_Line Outputs and High_Power_Outputs and preset_configurations_playback

Kindly do the needful as early as possible, as am stuck to get this working from past two weeks

Eagerly awaiting for your replies

  • Hi Srini,

To get audio playback from the AIC3105 should be pretty straitforward, Im sorry that you've had some difficulty!

first make sure your PC is recognising the USBMODEVM and that it is selected as your audio playback/record device in windows.

Then you should be able to load the preset you showed in your picture "Stereo playback to AC coupled headphones".  just select that and press load.  the GUI controls unfortunately do not update to reflect the preset configuration, but at this point you should be able to play audio from WMP, audacity, etc...

    best regards,

    -Steve Wilson

  • Thanks a lot for your quick responses, I got playback working

Could you please let me know, How and What are all the settings that needs to be done in order do the audio capture/record get working using EVM? I ma trying to capture using onboard MIC ie., MK1

I hv enabled On-board Microphone to Digital Output.

And I am wondering that , whether can I record the data using any audio file formats, could you please help me how this recording can be done to any audio file formats using EVM

Kindly do the needful as early as possible,

  • Srini,

you've got the right idea.  go ahead and load the Preset configuration you have selected.  The GUI doesn't support recording audio directly,  but this can be done with any audio recording software you choose.  We typically use Audacity,  which is a great cross-platform audio tool that is free.

As I recall the Driver for the USBMOD has some limitations in terms of supported word legths, and Sampling frequencies.   But File format will be determined by the program you use to record the audio.

If you choose to use Audacity, you can record audio and export it as WAV, AIFF, MP3,FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, etc...  its entirely up to you.

    best regards,

    -Steve Wilson

  • Thanks Steve, I will try with Audacity

Do you mean that the Driver for the USB-MODEVM has some limitations in terms of supported word legths, and Sampling frequencies.?? If so can you please try and let me know in your EVM board ie., till what extent the word lengths and sampling frequencies are supported to get this audio record working??

Kindly do the needful as early as possible,

    Awaiting for your replies

  • Srini,

yes the driver that is used with the USBMODEVM for the TLV320AIC3104 is limited to 44.1khz using the default driver. This is for USB audio only.

if other sampling rates are desired for testing via USB audio, there are ways around that.

The TLV320AIC3254 GUI/Driver supports a wider range of sampling rates, however the driver is not compatible with the TLV320AIC3105EVM GUI. So the device would have to be configured via the Command line interface of the AIC3254EVM GUI.

For non-USB audio, you can use whatever sampling rate or word length the Device is capable of.

  • Thanks for your quick updates and appreciate the same, will try this and get back to you
