TLV320AIC3262: Audio DAC integrated with Headphone Amp could drive 8ohms/100mW bone contact headphone

Part Number: TLV320AIC3262

Team,

My customer want an audio DAC with integrated headphone driver could drive 8ohms 100mW bone-contact headphone, for VR application. Do you know if AIC3262 parts could drive it with in serial resistors?

Best Regards,

Peter Wei

  • HI, Peter,

The AIC3262 might be able to drive the required load with the resistors but the power will not meet customer specs, the maximum power the headphone driver can deliver is 24mW with 16 Ohm load. However, this device features a Class-D speaker driver which actually can drive up to 1.7W into an 8 Ohm load with 5.5V power supply and 10% THD+N. It would be possible to attenuate the output to deliver the required 100mW.

  • Hi Diego,

It is stereo headphone, two channels are sharing the same ground, how could we to use two class d amp to drive it? Class D output are differential.

Do you mean use one of the output pin to drive it single ended? I remember AIC parts output are the half wave on each output pin, it shouldn’t work, if the modulation like that. Do you know which part is with the full cycle wave class d?

  • Hi, Peter,

My previous response was oriented to the power spec requested from customer, thanks for clarifying te use-case. As you mention, Class-D speaker driver cannot operate in single-ended mode. I think that in order to meet customer requested power levels, an external amplifier should be used.
