TLV320DAC3120: TLV320DAC3120 replacement

Part Number: TLV320DAC3120
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC3120

Hi Team,

One of our customer currently using is TLV320DAC3120, due to shortage they want to replace it with TLV320AIC3120 (recommended in http://www.ti.com/product/TLV320DAC3120/description), which has ADC channel additionally. What will be pros and cons if the part is replaced with TLV320AIC3120, customer want to replace the part without any change in software and having below queries.

  1. By Default, after reset the Page0/Register81(ADC Digital Mic) D7 has 0 (ADC channel is powered down). Does this requires any change to disable ADC completely ?
  1. By default, P0/R18 & P0/R19(ADC NDAC_VAL & ADC MDAC_VAL) D7 has 0 (powered down) and ADC_DSP_CLK = DAC_DSP_CLK & ADC_MOD_CLK = DAC_MOD_CLK respectively. If am not wrong ADC clock is driven by DAC CLK. Does this starts sampling the analogue input signal after reset ?
  1. By default, P0/R61 (ADC Processing Block/ miniDSP Selection ) has D4-D0 as 00100 (ADC signal-processing block PRB_R5). Does this requires any change ?
  1. Page 0 / Register 53 DOUT (OUT Pin) Control. This pin is hanging and by default, has D3-D1 as 001 (DOUT = primary DOUT output for codec interface). Does this required to be disabled ?

The aim is to replace the part without any software change. Please help with your comments.

Thanks in advance for your help and support.

  • Hi Shinu,

You should be able to change from TLV320DAC3120 to TLV320AIC3120 without changes (if you're not using the ADC).
As you mention, the ADC channel is disabled by default, so even if the ADC clocks are set (taken from DAC clocks) the ADC is still disabled and there will be no output from it.
