TLV320AIC23: why TI stop the production of TLV320AIC23EVM2 the evaluation board

Part Number: TLV320AIC23

During my research for my project I decide to choose TLV320AIC23 as my audio codec. I search for a evaluation board and found TLV320AIC23EVM2 but TI stop the production and I would like to know why ?

  • Karl,

Thanks for your interest in the AIC23EVM2. The reason the EVM was discontinued was mainly because it had become very dated, and difficult to support. The software only ran on Windows up to XP, and it required a Parallel port on the PC being used, To be quite frank, it was getting hard for ME to find a computer to use with the EVM. There were a few technical obstacles too, components being discontinued, and the EVM not complying with TI's new EVM rules.
We are considering revamping the EVM as the AIC23B remains a popular device. Do you need an Evaluation board for a project?

    best regards,

  • Its for prototyping test

I will use a microcontroler to send commande

I found the schematics on the EVM doc

Do you give me the rights to reproduce it ?

Or can you still sell me one with the cd ?

  • Karl,
Let me see if I can dig one up. It may take a few days. There were two pcbs in the EVM kit, one that did all the communications, and one with the Codec, you mentioned that you were using a micro controller, so would you not need the communications board? that might make things even easier.

I cannot give you the rights to reproduce it, to put it plainly, thats out of my realm. What I can say is that if you have the schematics and want to use them as a reference you are welcome to let them guide you in making an extremely similar board of your own.

    best regards,
    -Steve Wilson
  • Just the audio codec board is enought
