TPA6138A2: How can we achieve Low THD+N < 0.01% at 10 mW Into 32 Ω?

Part Number: TPA6138A2

Dear officer,

The datasheet of TPA6138A2 claims that 'Low THD+N < 0.01% at 10 mW Into 32 Ω'.

May I know under what test condition, what kind of source was used to drive this amplifier, or what test circuit was applied to achieve this test result?

thanks,

Jim.

  • Hi Jim,

This device is differential analog input. The input must always be connected to a low noise source, commonly Audio Precision system is used as audio source. A low-pass filter is used to measure only the human ear threshold, which is up to around 20kHz.
32-ohm load is connected to the output and the input signal amplitude, which is usually 1kHz sine-wave, is adjusted so that the output is 10mW.
About the overall settings (like surrounding component values, supply voltage, etc) you can find it at the top of Electrical Characteristics table or also at the beginning of Typical Characteristics section, both from the data sheet.
Figure 1 on page 6 shows the THD+N vs power for 32-ohm load.
