PCM1773: phenomenon when connected 8ohm

Part Number: PCM1773

Dear Specialists,

My customer is considering PCM1773 and has questions.

I would be grateful if you could advise.

---

PCM1773 is specified for 10kohm resistance.

(1) What will happen if a speaker (8 Ω) is connected to the PCM 1773?
Is there a possibility of failure?

(2) If there is a possibility of failure, what is the reason?

(3) Does it occur at all?
Or is it such that it will not break if it does not break once?

(4)Is there a similar case with PCM 1773 or similar products?

---

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Hi Shinichi-san,

Connecting an 8Ω speaker should not damage the device, as the output impedance of the amplifier is very high and its current sourcing capability is very low. I do not see this condition violating the absolute maximum specification, though note that the DAC will not be able to drive this speaker.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Paul,

    Thank you for your reply.

I understand connecting 8ohm speaker is not damage to PCM1173 and could not drive properly.

I'll share this information with the customer.

    I appreciate your great help.

    Best regards,

    Shinichi
