TPA3118D2: TPA3118D2 faults

Greetings,

In an effort to reduce EMI on speaker wires, I have changed the shunt capacitor in (PBTL configuration) each leg of the LCoutput filter from the recommended 1uF to 10uF. I find that transients from connecting my microphone cause the amplifier to fault. This fault happens much more frequently with no speakers attached. Why do you expect this is happening ?

Hi Rick,
It't not expected to use so large cap in the output filter. The large cap abosrbs too much current, which could cause OC FAULT. To improve the EMI perfromance, please use as short speaker wires as possible. And place the LC filter as close to the AMP output as possible. Another improvement is to add snubber(330pF+10Ohm) on each output pins. Please refer to our EVM design: www.ti.com/.../slou342a.pdf
