SRC4193: Volume Control bits?

Part Number: SRC4193

Hello,

When doing volume control with the SRC4193 how many bits does it use internally for volume control 32, 64? This is not mentioned in the datasheet.

Thanks;

Leo

  • Hi Leonid,

    Just to clarify, you are referring to the independent digital attenuation for the left and right audio channels. Is that correct?

    The attenuation ranges from 0 dB (or unity) to –127.5 dB in 0.5-dB steps. But you are interested in the internal implementation details...Correct?

    Thanks.

    Best regards,
    Ravi

  • Yes Iam referring to the attenuation from 0 to -127.5db, and I want to know how many bits are used internally to accomplish this function because the more bits the more accurate the result. For high end audio typically 64-bits are used.
  • Hi Leonid,

    Based on the feedback from design team, the volume control uses 28 bits including the sign bit. Since it is always positive, the effective bits are 27.
