TLV320AIC3110: TLV320AIC3110 DRC Question.

Part Number: TLV320AIC3110

Dear Sir,

We checked AIC3110 DRC have some questions need your help,

Register:

Page0 REG68 0x44( DRC Control 1) Enable
Page1 REG38 0x26 (Left Analog Vol to SPL) 91
Page1 REG42 0x2A (SPL Driver) 0C
Page0 REG65 0x41 (DAC Left Volume Control) 30
Page0 REG71 0x47 (Left Beep Generator) 02

Result:

When input is -1dB, o/p will trigger DRC and stable to 2.1Vrms.

When input is 0dB, o/p will trigger DRC and stable to 2.2Vrms.

Question:

Why increase i/p level trigger DRC but o/p level is different?

As my thinking, once trigger DRC, no matter input level, o/p should keep the same level, isn't it?

Thanks, Ian.

  • Ian,

Take a look at this application report.  The DRC is not a limiter,  it is a Compressor.  Here is a snapshot from the application report I linked to:

the X axis is input, the y Axis is output.  you can see the threshold (purple line) is set at -12dB,  from that point until 0dB the signal is compressed, so for an input beyond the range of -32 to 0dB the output will be compressed to between -12 to 0dB.   does that make sense?

    best regards,
