LM1894: How to Improve the High Frequency Gain of LM1894

Part Number: LM1894

According to the reference design circuit:

1. When R1:R2 is set to 800:200, the default voltage of C10 is 1.4V. The dynamic range of C10 is large, and the low-frequency gain characteristic of C10 can be up to 3.3V (1.4V-3.3V) is very good. But the high frequency gain is insufficient.

2. In order to improve the high frequency gain, reduce the ratio of R1:R2 to 500:500. At this point, the high-frequency gain will improve. But the default voltage of C10 will be higher. It's 2.2V. The dynamic range is 2.2V-3.3V, which results in a smaller dynamic range. This improves the high-frequency response and makes the low-frequency characteristics worse.

My needs:

1. When I reduce the ratio of R1 to R2, don't raise the default level of C10, or lower the default level of C10.

2. Or how to improve high-frequency gain on existing circuits

There is no FM in my application and no L8 R8 CL.

C10 parameter adjustment is 4.7uF

C12 parametric adjustment is 4.7nF

  • Hi,

    Welcome to e2e.
I think the behavior your're seeing is the expected, based on data sheet information.
Perhaps you can try to adjust the value of the capacitors of the control path signal or the capacitors from the integrator (C3 & C12).

In addition, I would like to highlight that this device is NRND (Not Recommended for New Designs), although still active; we suggest to look into our product portfolio for a replacement.
Support for newer devices is better as there is more information available and also there are evaluation tools, like EVMs.

  • Hi
    Thanks for your support!

which capacitors of control path is most sensitive? C5?C6? C9?
in my opinion, add the value of C5 C6 will add DC-bias of C10.

    Best regards,
    Debing
  • Debing,

Unfortunately I don't have any tool to test this so I couldn't tell for sure. I would just try with different values on those caps.
